Per the invitation from MPA Public Policy Forum, former deputy leader of the Central Rural Work Team, former party secretary of Shanxi province, Mr. Chunqing Yuan gave a series of online speeches to the MPA students at School of Government on April 11 and April 25. The speeches centered on the poverty elimination that China has been fighting for millennia to achieve. According to the plan, China shall defeat the extreme poverty by 2020. This means we are now standing at a crucial point of winning this war.

Based on his frontline experience for 30 years, Secretary Yuan shared his insights and researches on four major questions about poverty elimination: the great achievements and meanings of China’s poverty elimination; the successful experiences and methods; challenges for the next step; building the long-term solution for the gradual elimination of relative poverty.

The speeches were presided by Deputy Director of IPG Ms. Haiyan Li. Director Jirong Yan and a few teachers attended the speeches offline due to the influence of COVID-19 pandemic. Over 500 online audience participated the two splendid speeches and interacted with Secretary Yuan.
