On May 28th, the second PKU Public Governance Lecture was held at Liao Kaiyuan building, the former vice president of Beijing Organizing Committee of Olympic Games (BOCOG) Jiang Xiaoyu had an in-depth exchange with teachers and students on the theme of " The Leadership and Glory of the Communist Party of China Realize the Chinese nation’s Century-old Olympic Dream".
Jiang recalls the origin of the Chinese nation’s century-old Olympic dream. The Chinese nation began to pay attention to the Olympic Games from 1908. However, due to the backward economy and weak national strength of the old China, the three Olympic Games were all ended up with no success.
Jiang points out that since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China's overall national strength has continued to rise, sports culture has developed rapidly, and Chinese athletes have been making outstanding achievements in the international arena. From Xu Haifeng's "zero breakthrough" in gold medal for China to the successful holding of the 2008 Olympic Games, we have witnessed China's historical cross-domain from closed to open, from weak to powerful. As an organizer and witness of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Jiang vividly described the wonderful moments in the preparation, performance and competition of the Games.
Jiang stresses that the Beijing Olympic Games has left a rich material heritage and precious spiritual wealth. The successful hosting of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games fully embodies the correct leadership of the Party, the institutional advantages of the socialist system of concentrating resources to accomplish large undertakings, the strong support of the people and the strong economic strength of China.
Jiang says that China is at the historical juncture of the "two centenary" and will embark on a new journey of building a sports power. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will be held and Beijing will become the world's only double Olympic city. We need to combine the game to the development of the city and the country's progress closely.
